Al principio, la Comisión Europea no permitió a Microsoft lanzar la nueva versión de su sistema operativo con Internet Explorer incluido debido a que se saltaba las reglas de libre competencia. Pero es que tampoco les parecía bien que Microsoft no incluyera ningún navegador de Internet, porque eso perjudicaría a los usuarios. Finalmente han decidido (de momento) aceptar la propuesta de Microsoft.

Lo que hay en juego es la amenaza de una posible multa millonaria por abuso de posición dominante. Algo que ya ha ocurrido tres veces a lo largo de los últimos años. La más sonada, una multa de 280 millones de euros en el año 2006

Asi que, salvo que este culebrón traiga más sorpresas de última hora, la Comisión Europea ha cedido ante la última propuesta y permitirá a Microsoft ofrecer Internet Explorer junto a Windows 7. Además, el navegador se podrá desinstalar fácilmente y de forma completa del equipo, algo que no podíamos hacer, por ejemplo, en Windows Vista ni XP.

En cualquier caso, parece que es el golpe que le hacía falta a Internet Explorer para perder su cuota de popularidad.
